Week 15

In this week's content we will examine how sponsorship messages try to influence an audience. You will be required to compare commercial and independent texts, identify persuasive methods and write balanced advice for young esports fans.

Steps to complete:

1. Complete the student-led persuasion-spotting starter.

2. Read the sponsor press release and the independent commentary.

3. Label important claims as fact, opinion, inference, endorsement or unsupported assertion.

4. Highlight persuasive devices such as emotive language, repetition, selective detail and calls to action.

5. Decide what a critical reader should question before accepting a commercial claim.

6. Write a balanced 300-word article titled “How to read esports sponsorship critically”.

7. Check that your advice is fair, evidence-based and clearly organised.

By the end you will have an annotated source comparison and a completed advisory article.
