Week 26

In this week's content we will learn how to make complex rules and technical information easy to follow. You will be required to identify ambiguity and produce a beginner-friendly guide for a fictional esports tournament.

Steps to complete:

1. Take part in the student-led bad-instructions demonstration and identify why it fails.

2. Analyse the rulebook extract for headings, definitions, “must/may” language, examples and exceptions.

3. Find sentences that could be misunderstood and explain the source of the ambiguity.

4. Plan the sections needed for your own guide: eligibility, format, scoring, conduct, tie-breaks and worked example.

5. Write a two-page beginner guide using logical headings and precise instructions.

6. Give the guide to another group for user testing.

7. Rewrite any section that the test group found unclear.

By the end you will have a tested and improved technical guide.
