Week 19
In this week's content we will be looking at game design documentation: pitching and testing a playable idea through a realistic Level 3 IT context. You will be required to create a concise game design document for Signal Rescue and communicate the concept so another developer could prototype it.
Steps to complete:
1. Combine audience, purpose, mechanic and constraint cards into a coherent game concept.
2. Extract mandatory and optional requirements from the Signal Rescue brief.
3. Define player goal, rules, feedback, progression and win/fail states.
4. Complete the mini game-design document including controls, audio/visual cues and accessibility choices.
5. Write a 300-word opening/tutorial scene that teaches the mechanic without an information dump.
6. Use a paper simulation to record one usability issue and one design improvement.
By the end of the session you should have a mini game design document, tutorial text and playtest improvement record.
