Week 1

In this week's content we will be looking at reading it systems: users, components and consequences through a realistic Level 3 IT context. You will be required to analyse a service failure, map the system involved and explain it clearly to a non-specialist audience.

Steps to complete:
1. Sort a set of IT terms into hardware, software, network, data and user categories.
2. Read the Westbridge Learning Centre case study and annotate explicit facts, inferred causes, user needs and consequences.
3. Create a labelled map showing devices, software, network services, data and people involved.
4. Define 12 technical terms in plain English and use each accurately in a sentence.
5. Write a 300-word explanation for centre staff describing what failed, what still worked and why a complete IT system is more than one device.
6. Peer-check technical accuracy, clarity and paragraphing and make final corrections.

By the end of the session you should have an annotated case study, a systems map, a 12-term glossary and a polished explanatory article.
