Week 5
In this week's content we will focus on structure: the order in which a writer reveals information and controls pace. You will be required to analyse how a text creates tension and then improve the structure of your own writing.
Steps to complete:
1. Complete the student-led card sort on structural techniques.
2. Read the competition extract and track what the writer focuses on at the beginning, middle and end.
3. Identify shifts in viewpoint, pace, setting or attention.
4. Reorder the mixed paragraphs in the “Director's cut” task and justify your choices.
5. Write an evaluation paragraph explaining how effectively the writer creates tension.
6. Return to last week's narrative and reorganise one section to make the build-up or ending stronger.
By the end you will have a structural analysis and a revised section of your own narrative.
