Week 14
In this week's content we will focus on localisation: adapting English so that a message works for different audiences and cultures. You will be required to identify language that may confuse an international audience and create several clearer versions of the same message.
Steps to complete:
1. Rewrite the student-led idiomatic announcement in clearer international English.
2. Highlight slang, idioms, ambiguous wording, tone and culture-specific references in the sample copy.
3. Produce three versions of one event announcement: one for UK teenagers, one for international newcomers and one for formal sponsors or partners.
4. Complete the meaning-card task by choosing the clearest English wording for each message.
5. Compare your versions and explain what changed and why.
6. Edit for precision, tone and audience awareness.
By the end you will have a three-version localisation pack with a short explanation of your choices.
