Week 20

In this week's content we will compare how spectatorship and competition are described in two very different time periods. You will be required to read a 19th-century text alongside a modern esports source and compare ideas, language and perspective.

Steps to complete:

1. Listen to the student-led context briefing and note any unfamiliar historical ideas.

2. Read both texts, using the vocabulary support to understand difficult wording.

3. Highlight references to crowd behaviour, excitement, status, technology and competition.

4. Identify each writer's attitude and the methods used to communicate it.

5. Organise similarities and differences before writing.

6. Produce a Paper 2-style comparative response using evidence from both periods.

7. Review your answer for clear comparative connectives and precise references.

By the end you will have annotated paired sources and a completed cross-period comparison.
