Match-report detective: facts, inference and concise summary

In this week's content we will look at how journalists turn an esports match into a clear, accurate report. You will be required to separate fact from inference, select strong evidence and reduce a longer text into a concise summary without losing important information.

Steps to complete:

1. Take part in the student-led retrieval and inference quiz.

2. Read the tournament report and colour-code facts, quotations, inferences and writer comments.

3. Choose five inferences and match each one to the strongest supporting evidence.

4. Reduce the report to approximately 120 words, keeping only the key events, causes and outcomes.

5. Create three different headlines and standfirsts for different audiences.

6. Check that your final summary is accurate, neutral and easy to follow.

By the end you will have a concise match summary and a set of audience-specific headlines.
